Alton Towers – Scarefest Advert

Alton Towers is the UK’s biggest Theme Park Resort and 2020 marks its 40th year of operation as Britain’s most recognisable destination for family fun. Their annual Halloween event is perhaps its most well-known event with its current incarnation, Scarefest, running since 2007.

As we all know, 2020 has not been a normal season for any tourist attraction to operate in and Scarefest is no exception. Normally, Alton Towers would have a plethora of video footage from past events they could use to market Scarefest on social media however, this past footage did not show the safety measures they have put in place to ensure the safety of their guests due to Covid-19.

Brave New Beast was approached by the park to produce an exciting advert for Scarefest 2020. The video was to highlight not only the safety measures implemented in their ‘scare mazes’ and entertainment but to also show how this wouldn’t take away from the fun of the festivities.

We got to work by filming inside some of their well-known scare attractions such as Altonville Mine Tours, as well as covering their new attractions for 2020 such as Garden Lights Walk: Whispering Souls and Freak Show: Toxic Junkyard. We made sure to feature all the actors in face masks and ‘scaring’ at a distance. A big part of Scarefest is the decorations around the park that deliver guests a magical and spooky atmosphere, so we made sure to capture this along with the entertainment on the main stage.

Alton Towers were delighted with their video which created a lot of buzz on social media which resulted in 56k views on Facebook and brilliant engagement.

As well as the main advert that was edited in-house at Brave New Beast, we provided their brilliant marketing team with all the raw footage so they could push out short clip videos through their social media.
